Held on the first Sunday of each and every month at The Castle, Eden Road, in the heart of Walthamstow Village, London E17.

Fresh'n'Live has been created by Gabrielle Starkey and Ian to allow public and performers alike to enjoy live entertainment in a smoke-free pub environment. We believe there are many like us who would prefer not to have to breathe cigarette smoke every time we go out, but who have had no alternative.. so we created one. We now have healthy (pun intended) regular crowd and a large mailing list. It has attracted some fantastic talent, both local and form far and wide. Fresh'n'Live is a totally free event.

The primary aim of Fresh 'n' Live is to create a varied and interesting experience for all. We provide a well equipped and very high quality technical set-up, designed to cater for everyone from the poet with nothing more than his facial expressions, to live bands, and even midi based performances (by prearrangement). Musicians have collaborated in duos and mini-jams, with some great results. Details of all the equipment provided is on the Performers page. Our policy is to keep volume to a minimum, and we are happy for people to play purely acoustic sets if they wish, 2 great examples of which are on the Events page in the May event section. Whether musician or punter, we hope you will come along and support us in our little audio adventure down at the Castle, and help create something original and spontaneous!

Doors open at 6pm, with the show from 7pm until around 11.00pm.

Recorded material at our events

Each month we record multi track recordings of all artists, and video for the web site. If you have any objection to being recorded please let us know before you perform. At the moment neither of these are available to performers or the public simply because of lack of time on our part. We would eventually like to produce DVDs from the video footage of the night to sell, and allow artists to have copies of the Cubase files for their own use. Hopefully as we manage to build the new studio we will get to grips with all the recording side of things. If however, in the mean time, you know what you are doing with cubase or video files and want to pop over and do it yourself then we would be more than happy to let you.

Fresh'n'Live on tour

We are currently looking into taking Fresh'n'Live on tour around the festival circuit in England in 2007. Now that our sound system is nearing completion, we have everything we need to take the whole show on the road. If you would be interested in helping out in any way, either by advising us or offering any services or equipment we may need, or if you know anyone who may be able to advise us on how we might go about achieving this then please get in touch. It's new territory for us so we are open to suggestion. The only way we can see it working financially is to get some sponsorship from equipment manufacturers. Maybe you know other ways. Please let us know as soon as possible.

As far as I know, most festivals don't have an open mic tent, and I think it is something that would prove quite popular and interesting.. something a bit different. And of course, we would have the quality of sound that we have become known for, another thing that is often lacking at festivals.

People we would like to thank for helping promote Fresh'n'Live.

Paul Chi - from Healthy Concerts - organizers of smoke-free gigs in people's houses and gardens here, there and everywhere.

Mike Spencer - presenter of The Trashcan on Resonance FM, Saturdays 3:30 to 4:30 - a fabulously crazy show on a fine station!

Matthew Glamorre - a extraordinary man, and promoter of the Kash Point events and radio shows, also on Resonance 104.4.

Tom - from Penned in the Margins - Events and management of spoken word in performance and on the page.
